Education and Career Development

Programs in this Core Program Area enable youth to achieve success in a career.

IN-SCHOOL SERVICE PROGRAM

To maintain maximum effectiveness with academic intervention efforts, Club personnel work in the school with the same youth referred by school personnel that come to the Clubs after-school.

POWER HOUR PROGRAM

The Power Hour program provides members with tutorial assistance as well as educational aids to help maintain or improve academic skills.  Power Hour also offers peer assistance and teaches members the value of education and the importance of using their academic potential.

PARENT/TEACHER MEMBER PROGRAMS

These activities give parents, teachers, Club members and their families the opportunity to engage in on-site Club activities.  This program strengthens relationships and bridges the gap between the home and school.

WORLD OF WORK TOURS

This program gives Club members ages 10 – 18 the opportunity to get acquainted with different career areas.  Members tour various companies within their areas of interest to find out what the particular job duties are for various positions.

JUNIOR STAFF CAREER DEVELOPMENT

The Junior Staff program provides Club staff and volunteers with tools to guide young people in preparing for a career in Boys & Girls Clubs and/or other service professions. Through participation in Junior Staff, teens will develop interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and a sense of community engagement while experiencing on-the-job Club work.

TEEN STRATEGIC PLAN/LIFE PLAN

The Teen Strategic Plan Program was designed to combat the lack of goal setting and planning for the future of teen Club members.    The program assists teen members in class registrations, financial aid applications, college and career research, setting academic and career goals, etc.  The overall goal of the program is to ensure that when all Club members leave the Boys & Girls Club , they have implemented a plan to ensure they are “productive, responsible and caring citizens” when they graduate from High School and are enrolled in either in college, armed forces or in a vocational school.
