Who Are The Youth We Guide? 1,070 youth ages 6-18 joined one of the five Boys & Girls Clubs, with another 50 other children served by Club staff or programs. 88% of Club members live in poverty. 65% of our members live with a single parent. 74% of members do not use other youth agencies. Preparing Children To Become Contributing Adults! · 53 youth referred by school officials, due to academic or behavioral problems: 66% maintained or improved average to above average grades. · 275 final report cards were sampled from general Club membership: 84% maintained or improved average to above average grades. · Club staff worked in 7 schools for 720 hours. · 35 out of 38 school officials surveyed, stated that Club staff and programs improved student academics and behavior. · There were 39 “World of Work” tour experiences for 544 Club members. · Clubs provided 33 parent-teacher activities that were attended by 2,873 participants. · Club members planned and conducted 2,070 hours of community service projects. · Clubs chartered Torch Clubs to teach leadership skills for members ages 11-13: The Clubs had 79 members who held 147 meetings and workshops. Teaching Children To Be Fit and To Make Healthy Decisions! · 311 Club members completed the "Smart Moves" substance abuse and pregnancy prevention programs: 72% passed written post tests verifying their understanding of prevention behaviors. · 119 female members completed the "Smart Girls" teen pregnancy and substance abuse prevention program: 76% passed written post tests verifying their understanding of prevention behaviors. · Identified "at-risk" Club members completed a pregnancy prevention program: One Club member gave birth to a child during the year, which is well below the Guilford County teen birth rate. · 163 Club members participated in the "Street Smart" gang prevention program. · 389 youth were weighed and 76% fell within the healthy range of the CDC weight to age chart. · 390 members participated in 283 fitness sessions held twice a week at each Club location. · The Swimming Center provided a recreational and instructional summer swimming program to over 500 youth.
